A natural stone formed in the earth over millions of years. A lab-created stone has the same chemistry and look but was grown in a laboratory, and costs far less.
Treated stones are natural, but have been heated, oiled or filled to improve their colour or clarity. Many treatments are common and accepted; they should simply be disclosed.
A good jeweller will always tell you which of the three you are buying, and price it accordingly.
